Malaysia4Uyghur : We welcome the withdrawal of the controversial China-backed webinar.
KUALA LUMPUR, 18 Aug 2021: The Malaysia4Uyghur (M4U), a coalition of multi-faith non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and human rights advocacy groups for Uyghurs, has today welcomed the decision by the organizer of “China’s Cooperation with the Muslim World” – a webinar supported by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia - to cancel the event.
The cancellation of the event was the primary demand of M4U. The event is nothing more than a propaganda blitz aimed to cover up the well-publicised genocide against the Uyghurs.
The webinar by Muslim World Research Center was to be held on 18th August 2021, with dignitaries and ambassadors from crucial Muslim countries, including former Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar and current China's Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing.
Mr. Zuhri Yuhyi, President of M4U, commented today: “M4U is committed to standing with the Uyghurs in their fight for human rights and calling for an end to their arbitrary detention, torture, and harassment of inside and outside China.. We strongly welcome the withdrawal of this controversial event, which is China's official narrative regarding its treatment of Uyghurs."
“The China Government must now stop its outright denial on its mass surveillance and internment of Uyghurs in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. An independent, impartial investigation into the gross violations of human rights against Uyghurs, which many sovereign countries have backed, would help begin the end of the long history of repression against the Uyghurs." commented Jason Leong, the advisor of the Association of Nexgen Christians of Malaysia (ANCOM).
Azmi Abdul Hamid, president of the Malaysian Consultative Council Of Islamic Organization (MAPIM) said:"The withdrawal of this event was a key demand of M4U. I now hope more documentation will be released & China’s repression thoroughly investigated."
CEO of Allied Coordinating Committee of Islamic NGOs (ACCIN) Ir. Jamaludin Shamsudin commented “M4U reaffirmed the importance of ending pervasive restrictions on and serious human rights violations of Uyghurs. M4U stressed that the mass media and NGOs should not be used to facilitate China’s propaganda campaign.”
CEO of Global Peace Mission Malaysia Mr. Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin added ”We, the members of M4U reiterate our support to the work of the Uyghur Tribunal, which promotes the awareness of the Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples in Xinjiang. We emphasize the importance of constructive engagement and open dialogue with the Chinese government while holding Beijing of its treatment against Uyghurs.”
“M4U would like to record an appreciation to Member of Parliament, Y.B. Datuk Seri Mohd. Redzuan Md. Yusof on his refusal to extradite Uyghurs from Malaysia even at China’s request. We hope his courage would live on in other MPs” said Mr. Zuhri Yuhyi
